King Cards (Japanese: キングカード Kingu Kādo) are cards created by KuugaUltimate200 (aka DragonRikaZangetsu at DevianART) with golden-colored frames that resemble gold tablets. They're introduced at "Kingship of the Duelist" alongside Master Rule ROYAL. They are placed in the Spell & Trap Zone, and work like Spell and Trap cards do, with the added ability to unlock "King Monster Zones" on the Field to Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck to the Main Monster Zones without the need of Link Monsters.

Design & Theme[]

King cards have golden-colored frames that resemble gold tablets, with the kanji for King ( キング ) engraved on it. In many cultures the color gold is associated with kings, for example: In Japan this color symbolizes strength and wealth, two things associated with kings, and since these cards give more power and freedom to the player, that's possibly why this color was chosen.

Mechanics & Rulings[]

Basic Functions[]

King Cards are cards that are placed on the Spell & Trap Zone and basically work like them, except with the ability to unlock "King Monster Zones" on the Field to Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck without the need of Link Monsters.

Unlocking King Monster Zones[]

King Cards have the ability to treat a number of Main Monster Zones as "King Monster Zones" in order to Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck. How many zones can be unlocked are indicated by a King card's King Hierarchy. King Monster Zones are unlocked before the activation of a King card’s effects (The unlocking of Zones is not a card effect, therefore it cannot start a chain.)

King Hierarchy[]

King Hierarchy is a number placed on the left of King cards (Similar to the Link Rating from Link & Lock Link monsters) that is beside this symbol King-icon.png, they indicate how many King Monster Zones can be unlocked (The player can choose which Zones to unlock)

Spell Indicators[]

Spell Indicators are up to 2 icons similar to those from Spell/Trap Cards, placed on the right side of the King Cards, they tell the way how King Cards work as well as telling their Spell Speed.

The first icon can be the following:

If it has this icon Quick-Play.png; the card is treated as a Quick Effect card, and therefore it is a Spell Speed 2 card.

if it has this icon Continuous.png; the card is treated as a Continuous card, and therefore must stay on the field after activation.

if it has this icon Field.png; the card is treated as a Field card and must be placed on the Field Zone.

if it has this icon Counter.png; the card is treated as a Counter card; and therefore it is a Spell Speed 3 card.

if it has this icon Equip.png; the card is treated as an Equip card.

If it has this icon Ritual.png; the card is treated as a Ritual card.

If it has this icon Shield.png; the card is treated as a Shield card.

The 2nd icon can only be whether Continuous.png, Equip.png, Ritual.png, or Shield.png.

King Monster Zones[]

For more information see "King Monster Zones"

  • King Monster Zones can only be unlocked by King cards
  • The number of Unlockable King Monster Zones depends on a King card’s King Hierarchy (You can choose those zones).
  • A Main Monster Zone(s) must be empty before being used to Unlock a King Monster Zone. Occupied Monster Zones cannot be used.
  • When a monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck leaves a King Monster Zone (by being destroyed, banished or sent back to the Extra Deck/Hand during your opponent's turn), that zone reverts to a Main Monster Zone, however you can still unlock King Monster Zones during your turn.
  • If treated as a Continuous or Field cards by its Spell Indicators, King cards can unlock King Monster Zones up to its King Hierarchy during your turns, while that card remains face-up in your field.
  • King can unlock King Monster Zones, even if a King Monster Zone has been reverted to a Main Monster Zone by a card effect during that same turn.
  • If a Link Monster’s Link Arrows point to a King Monster Zone, the latter still is treated as a King Monster Zone.
  • The 2 Extra Monster Zones cannot be used to Unlock King Monsters Zones.
  • If a Link Monster is Summoned to a King Monster Zone; you can Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, to Monster Zones its Link Arrows point to.
  • Even if King cards leave the Field, a King Monster Zone(s) remain unlocked for the rest of the turn, unless it's reverted to a Main Monster Zone by card effects.
  • Empty King Monster Zones are reverted to Main Monster Zones during your End Phase.

King Summoning[]

For more information see "King Summoning".

  • When a monster is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck to a King Monster Zone, it is treated as a King Summon.
    • The word “King” is added to the summoning type of that monster.
      • King [insert summoning type] Summon
      • King Fusion Summon
      • King Synchro Summon
      • King Xyz Summon
      • King Pendulum Summon
      • King Link Summon
      • Etc.
  • Despite being treated as "King Summoning", Special Summoning monsters from the Extra Deck is still treated as it's corresponding Summoning type. King Summon is just a PSCT term to reduce card text.
  • King Summoning can still be negated by cards like "Solemn Judgement" and other cards.

Card Examples[]

Regarding Master Rule Revision 2020[]

Since that new Master Rule will allow Fusion, Synchro and Xyz monsters to be Special Summoned to the Main Monster Zone without the Extra Monster Zone restriction, many would think these cards are now completely pointless, but since Pendulums and Links are still under that restriction, these cards can still be useful to summon those overriding that restriction.

Also a new Master Rule has been made by KuugaUltimate200 to fit for these cards' usage.
