When we enumerate several things and end the enumeration with "etc.", should we add "..." after the "etc."? And if we put suspension points after "etc.", should the period after "etc" be counted as one of the suspension points or not? If the period after "etc" is not counted as one of the suspension points, there would be four points after "etc".
How is it correct:
1) I bought a wide variety of sweets: cookies, ice-cream, cupcakes, gumdrops etc.
or
2) I bought a wide variety of sweets: cookies, ice-cream, cupcakes, gumdrops etc...
or
3) I bought a wide variety of sweets: cookies, ice-cream, cupcakes, gumdrops etc....
